Open Access Chalk Land

Dover Town Council are the very proud owners of a wide section of open chalk land that is open to the public all year round and is well used by ramblers, Dog walkers and naturists, and is also home to the Konik Ponies. The land is managed by White Cliffs Countryside Partnership who quite frequently runs workshops for all.

“Chalk grassland is one of richest habitats in Europe for wildlife and has been described as Europe’s equivalent of tropical rain forest. Dover and Shepway contain … about 1% of the chalk grassland in the world.” – Visit White Cliffs Countryside for more information.

Dover Greeters

In 2012 Dover Town Council started a greeting services based on volunteers to meet, greet and advise tourists visiting the town during the summer months to answer any questions and generally give a welcoming feel to the Town.

These services are still ongoing and the Dover Greeters are now a flourishing independent group. If you wish to join or find out more please contact Mrs Denise Smith who coordinates the volunteers on 01304 206458.
