ROTARY CLUB DOVER |
Tony Cook President, Rotary Club of Dover 2020-21 The Rotary theme for the year 2020-21 is “Rotary Opens Opportunities” and whilst we begin the Rotary year under challenging circumstances the members of the Dover club look forward to bringing opportunities to people in our community and working with other clubs to open opportunities around the world. I have chosen two projects this year, one local, one abroad. In each case they will bring opportunities to those who face challenges in their lives. In Dover we will be supporting Noel Beamish and his team at the Outreach Centre operating from Victory House in Snargate Street. Noel is doing wonderful work for those homeless and facing difficult circumstances. With practical assistance and specialist advice and support we hope that opportunities will open again for those who need a hand to get their lives back on track. The centre needs to purchase and install a new boiler and we hope to help with that. Internationally I have targeted a project in Nepal to support girls at schools who face problems due to outdated stigma surrounding menstruation. We will target schools so that they can provide incinerators and locally sourced sanitary pads. In these schools the girl students will no longer face the problem of regular interruptions to their education. This is a modular project so the more money we raise the more schools we can target. |
